The only universal truth is that of change. Everything from the weather to your body is in a constant state of change. So it came as no surprise when scientists started to come across more and more mutated genes. The next step of evolution didn't happen over hundreds of years, it happen in just a couple generations.
The news called them gifted but everyone else called them Evos. Just the simple fact that they existed changed everything. It wasn't long until child like wonder was turned into fear as the first of the attacks happened. Suddenly terrorism had a new face that made the old extremists seem like angry children playing with firecrackers.
Thousands were dying at a time and nobody new how to stop the attacks. Soon other evos stepped in and started to save people. It was just like those heroes from Marvel or any other comic book. Only the world didn't treat them as such. It didn't matter that they were saving people, they were still evos and mass media made sure nobody forgot that. Soon just about every politician was running on an anti-evo platform.
Sure enough a man by the name of Andrew T. Willum won the next election and everything changed again. The government set up genetic testing at birth, approved human testing on evos, set up blanket surveillance to help protect everyone. Armed patrols, random searches and checkpoints, even public executions it was all normal now and it wasn't even opposed. In fact all of these changed were widely applauded. Things only got worse as tech advanced and time went on.
It was found that evos naturally ran at higher core temps. The hotter the evo the stronger they were. Soon drones with special sensors we're patrolling the city, then drones became armed for quick response. The military now had exo-suits capable of keeping up with most evos. It grew to be to much for the evos, the gifted as they still preferred to call themselves were forced to either flee to more remote parts of the world or to go underground. They seemed to disappear as fast as they had emerged. The totalitarian rule stayed however. Instead of Macy's and the newest movies being advertised in Times Square it was curfew reminders and propaganda.
The sheep cheered as they built their new pens and then were amazed that they were forced to stay in them. Sure enough freedom fighters emerged. They were a mix of gifted and people that had finally had enough of being oppressed for the sake of the greater good.
